High School Roundup :Houston Jaycee Tournament Dec. 20

                                                    Houston Jaycee Tournament Schedule

Semi-finals
12pm Yates HS 98 vs Wheatley HS 85
The battle of the 3rd Ward community(Yates HS red/ gold) vs 5th Ward community (Wheatley HS purple/ white) and Houston's most two historic high schools. These two teams style of play are very similar and these two ball-clubs know each other very well. The venue should rocking and two of the better teams in the area prepare to do battle.

1:30   Westbury Christian HS 80 vs Madison HS 66
Westbury brings their undefeated record into the battle led by Anthony Collins, and Madison has been quietly approaching each game with his blue collar attitude led by CJ Shelvin. This game should be a good one.

3rd Place Game: Wheatley HS vs Madison HS
The third place game was a great game as both teams traded baskets early and often. Both teams play at a fast pace  and play a variety of players. Wheatley HS 22-Madison HS 21 end of 1st qtr.  Wheatley 43- Madison 42 halftime. Wheatley takes a late lead and Madison gets a last second 3pt attempt to tie the game but its short. Wheatley76- Madison 73 final. All tournament team :Wheatley HS Randy Lewis       Madison CJ Shelvin

Championship game: Yates HS vs Westbury Christian
Westbury Christian takes early lead out the gate and the signature trade mark of Yates (pressing defense) isn't rattling Westbury Christian at all. Anthony Collins is single handily breaking the trap and is stock piling the assist for his teammates. Although off to a rough start Yates HS is fighting to stay in the game. Westbury Christian 56-yates HS 44 halftime. Anthony Collins picks up 4th foul midway through the 3rd period and has to sit the final 3minutes of the quarter. Westbury Christian 66-Yates HS 53. Yates makes a run and cuts the lead to single digits midway through the 4th qtr. Westbury Christian 91-Yates HS 83. Big break for the lions as Anthony Collins fouls out on a phantom call. Both teams trade baskets over the next few possessions.  Tyler Guidry makes a pair of break the century mark against Yates HS. Yates couldn't close the gap at the end. Westbury Christian 103-Yates HS 91 as Westbury Christian remains unbeaten for the season and gives Yates HS their 1st in state loss in the last 70 games.
All tourney team Yates HS; Damien Dotson, Shai Fields, Westbury Christian -Anthony Collins, Delvon Dickerson, Tyler Guidry
*Anthony Collins was clearly the best player in the tourney making a constant impact on both ends of the floor. He remains one of the best unsigned seniors in the country. A true floor general that makes everybody better and is very unselfish, and puts on a show everytime he laces his kicks up.*

Anthony Collins 6'0 pg (2011) Westbury Christian

High School Roundup: Dec. 16 Yates HS vs Findlay Prep (NV)

Yates HS TX (8-0) vs Findlay Prep  NV (11-1)
Tonight is a key moment for the Houston Basketball Scene, Yates HS(2009 champs) will represent Houston against Findlay Prep(2008 champs) both are the last two National Champions. Findlay comes in ranked #5 Nationally and feature the trio of high major prospects (Myck Kabongo, Nick Johnson, Niguel  Williams Goss, Winston Shepard) while Yates HS features Shai Fields, Clyde Santee, Damien Dotson, Trey Bennett. Yates HS will look to force their will on  Findlay by controlling the tempo in typical Jack Yates style with its frantic pace. Yates will put its 66 game winning streak on the line tonight. The city of Houston will come out to support the Yates lions and to get an up close and personal look at the historic program of Findlay Prep. Should be a great game check (ESPN) @ 8pm central time.

boxscore Findlay 95- Yates HS 69

The 66 game winning streak was put on the line by Yates HS and Findlay Prep #5 ranking in the country was also at stake. Both teams came out swinging, the pressure from Yates didnt appear to rattle Findlay Prep guards. The game featured several big time prospects, although the game didnt live up to the hype it was great exposure for all paries involved. Findlay Prep won the heavy weight fight and claim the bragging rights. They were simply one step ahead of the Yates Lions and executed their game plan almost perfectly.

High School Round Up: Nov. 30

High School Roundup: Featured Games

7pm             Travis HS 55 vs Bellaire 52 @ Bellaire HS

This prime-time matchup could be a potential  playoff preview to come, this game featured
several division one prospects (Travis HS: Aaron/ Andrew Harrison, Anthony Odunsi(Iowa State signee) Bellaire HS(Sheldon McClellan Texas signee) in the battle of two of the cities better public school teams. The city came out to support this matchup, this game was nip and tuck the whole way and went down to the wire. It was Andrew Harrison getting a late steal and fouled on the breakways and making one of his two free throws with 10sec left to give Travis HS a 53-52 lead. McClellan gets the rebound of the 2nd free throw attempt by Andrew Harrison, but Bellaire turns the ball over.  Travis inbounds the ball and scores a late basket to clinch the victory.
THS- Anthony Odunsi 20pts, Reggie Davis 10
               BHS- Sheldon McClellan 15
7pm             ST. Thomas HS 52 vs Strake Jesuit 55 @ Strake
In the battle of the two arch rivals in the private school sector, the game was almost standing room only. Several big time college coaches were in attendance to witness the epic battle. The Jesuit faithfuls were out in packs of green , and the Reckling Rowdies from "St. Thomas" came to support the Eagles in black.  Jesuit raced out the gate to a 28-20 lead at halftime behind a hot start from Rasheed Sulaimon(11pts halftime). The Eagles from St. Thomas came out with fire in their eyes after the half and pulled even 38-38 at the end of the 3rd period.  The teams exchanged buckets in the fourth quarter and Strake managed to get a 5 point lead and control the tempo. The Eagles would make one last run to try to steal a road victory, however the Eagles came up a little short.

Texas Jamboree Recap

Powerade Texas Jamboree

The 8th Annual Texas Jamboree featured teams from Austin, Alabama, Dallas, Houston, New York, and San Antonio. Many came from far and wide to show how they ball in their respective cities. The event featured 17 games over the two day period, 20 total teams and several dozen future college basketball prospects. Anyone in attendance witnessed a treat in a variety of games, and to me is a perfect way to cap off any holiday weekend.

                                                             All Tournament Team

Anthony Collins

Anthony Collins -(6'0 pg2011 Westbury Christian)- The best point guard in the event without a question. This guy is a winner made play after play on both ends of the floor and kept teammates involved.  Has tremendous floor vision.
Robert Lee-(6'2 cg 2011 Austin LBJ)- The most athletic guard in the event by far, scored inside and outside. Several impressive dunks, scored 43 in his 1st game.
