Austin High School Round Up: Tuesday, January 25th

Yesterday, on Facebook Jalen Wsahington was getting feedback from his friends as to what shoes he should wear in last night's games.  As his boys gave their thoughts on fashion, I offered up a "just hoop, young brotha" comment.  I don't know what color or style he had on but it looks like he took my thoughts to heart  as he gave the Hippos the business.  2011 G Jalen Washington had 32 points to lead the Hawks as they outscored Hutto by 12 points down the stretch, overcoming a one point deficit to win going away.

2012 G Paul Baxter scored 22 to lead the Bulldogs to the victory.

Austin High's depth showed as the overcame a half time deficit to beat tough foe, Akins.  They were led by 2011 PG Eric McClellan who has really stepped up his leadership for Austin High.  2011 Malcolm Canada (Central Arkansas) had 20 in the loss.

2013 PG Will Morse led his young Chaps squad with 19 points.  2012 G John Gramlich had 18 in the loss for the much improved Trojans.

Bastrop 71  Manor 66
Bastrop's senior backcourt of Josiah Monroe (UT-San Antonio football) & Jordan Roach (South Alabama) had 24 & 20 respectively as the Bears held a significant free throw edge.  2011 G L.D. Williams had 25 in the loss.

Georgetown's 2012 G Michael Hardge led all scorers with 16, but Leander got their production in a more balanced fashion as Senior forwards Micah Eargle (11) & Mark Nwakamma (10) to win a low scoring contest.

Round Rock 59  Round Rock McNeil 562011 G Blair Williams continues to lead the Mavs in scoring as well as fill up the stat sheet in rebounds and steals.  He had 18 in the loss as 2013 P 6'10" Leonard Allen continues to assert himself defensively and sees his scoring become more steady as well for The Rock as he dropped 12 in the win.

The Runnin Roos continue to steamroll, with 4 players in double digits led by F Ta'Shawn Thomas' (Houston) 17 points.

Cedar Park 67 Dripping Springs 54
Senior PG Dylan Cox led his squad both statistically with 19 points and as a leader on the court as the Army commit quarterbacked his Timber Wolves to the win.

                                                            St. Thomas HS vs St.Johns HS Recap

    ST. Johns HS featured one of the top 10 freshman in the country in Justice Winslow, son of former PHI Slamma Jamma player Ricky Winslow. St. Thomas brought in a talented group as well featuring several division 1 players in 6'9 (2012) forward Jeremy King, 6'4 guard(2012) Christian Sanders, and 6'0 guard (2012) Chase Brogna.

Both teams came of firing Chase Brogna started the game on a 6-0 run to give St. Thomas an early lead. ST. Johns responded with its on run to close to the 1st quarter. STHS 13- SJHS 7.T he 2nd quarter was more of  the same as both teams struggled to score and traded a few baskets late in the period. Halftime STHS23-STJHS 16. 
 Third quarter belong to the duo from St. Johns Josh Winslow and Justice Winslow  as the fed off each others energy made plays to keep their team in the ball game. end of 3rd quarter STHS 30- SJHS 29. In the final period both teams clamped down on the defensive end and it was a battle for every bucket. Chase Brogna and Christian Sanders were just to much down the stretch and out duel the Winslow brothers to propel St Thomas to a victory late.

HIgh School Round Up : Jan. 14 Featured Game


                                               St. Thomas HS vs St. Pius X HS

    In front of a capacity crowd at the Reckin Gymnasium, two of the cities biggest rivals squared off in a district battle. ST. Thomas HS came out blazing with Christian Sanders (6'4 2012 guard) leading the charge offensively with a quick  7pts out the gate. St. Pius came to play as Devon Turk (6'3 2012 guard) put the Panthers on his back an answered with his own 9pt run to bring his team even with the Eagles from St. Thomas. Chase Brogna (6'0 2012 guard) counter with his own 8pt personal run to help St. Thomas extend the lead into halftime.  Halftime score STHS 32- SPX 24. In the 2nd half both teams made a few adjustments and both teams knew they were in for a real fight. Both teams fans began intense chants as the game had a  big time atmosphere feel. Tempers flared as neither team gave their opponent any easy baskets, foul trouble plagued both teams and sent key players to bench during this period. ST. Thomas lead 50-45 at the end of 3qtrs. Fans were on their feet for the final quarter both teams trade baskets to start the period, ST. Thomas led for the entire game until the last 2 mins when JP (6'5 2013 forward) scored on a 3pt play the old fashion way, to give St. Pius the lead inside of 2mins left in regulation. Both teams traded missed shots and it was Ian Hurley sinking 2 crucial free throws to give the Eagles a 1 point with 1 min left. ST. Pius got several good looks at the basket but were unable to connect and had to foul down the stretch. With just a 3pt lead Pius had one last opportunity to tie the ball, but a late miscommunication resulting in a turnover sealed the Panther's fate down the stretch.  Round 1 goes to ST Thomas HS. Round 2 will be played @ St. Pius HS on 2/4/11get there early folks.

High School roundup- Tues Jan. 12, 2011


 St. Thomas HS vs Kinkaid HS

On a cold winter evening two of the areas private school squared off last night @ Kinkaid HS. The gym was packed with fans who were all trying to stay warm and see some quality basketball.  St. Thomas came out the gate swinging quickly as a team St. Thomas hit 6 out of its first 9 treys to spark a 15 cushion early. Kinkaid's star Mavin Saunders was a beast on the glass and his teammate Jeff Roberson tried to weather the storm from the Eagles. At half time St. Thomas led 38-24. In the 2nd half St. Thomas came out with a flurry sparked by Andrew Jones and Christian Sanders to further extend the lead. After Jeremy King got in foul trouble Kinkaid managed to make a slight run, but on this night the Eagles were just too much.  Final St. Thomas 75- Kinkaid 48

All American Prodigy Camp (Feb. 20, 2011)


All American Prodigy Exposure Camp
                                  
"Exposure is what every player needs to make it to the next level". The All American Prodigy Camp will be conducted in Houston on Feb.20,2011, and will be an excellent opportunity for middle school boys and high school boys to gain valuable exposure. The camp follows a NBA combine format with several skill stations that every player will be careful evaluated at. Players will be allowed to test their respective games against quality competition from the surrounding area, and under the watchful eyes of the several basketball experts in media personnel that will be in attendance.
