Season Opener Triple Header Private Schools vs Public Schools @ ST. Thomas HS

RCS Season Kickoff @ St Thomas HS (4500 Memorial)

Tonight kicks off another basketball season in one of the hottest regions and most recruited areas in the country. Houston isnt taking a backseat to any other city around the country, there is plenty of talent and tonight triple header will feature over a dozen D1 prospects under one roof.  Although the private schools teams have all played a few games respectively, dont expect the public schools to come in a lay down in the season opener.

Rosenberg Terry came out blazing as it opened the game with a 18-2 run over the Second Baptist Eagles. Finally Second Baptist settled down and responded with a rally of their own to get back into the ballgame.  The Rangers from Terry were just too athletic and simply just wore down the Eagles. Tonight the Eagles just dug a hole they couldn't climb out of. Score round one  to the public schools.

Game 2 got off to an extremely slow start as a result the end of the 1st qtr was ST. Thomas HS 6- Sam Houston HS 4. The 2nd quarter was like a track meet compared to the 1st quarter and the Eagles from St. Thomas went into half time 21-20.  The 2nd half the Eagles duo of Chase Brogna and Christian Sanders took over and put some distance between Sam Houston. The Eagles bucked down off the defensive end  with the help of Adam Drexler's energy and hustle and thus were able to force Sam Houston into tough shoots and limit (Texas State signee) Dante Bachus to one fieldgoal in the 2nd half . In the best game of the evening both teams came out scrapping from the tipoff.  Both ballclubs exchange baskets and after the 1st half Westbury Christian led 32-29 over the Falcons from Jones HS. After the half both teams made a few adjustments and as Anthony Collins turned up the heat Joe Miles responded to keep his team in the ball game. Both teams made a rally down the stretch and were headed to overtime 54-54 at the end of regulation. Westbury Christian sprints out to a 4 point lead in overtime, Jones responds with there own flurry due to the full court trap.  At the end of overtime 61-61 all. Westbury Christian regains composure as Jones goes ice cold from the field to take a six point lead with 1:45 left to play in double ot. Anthony Collins was simply too much down the stretch as he leads Westbury Christian by Jones HS.  (Private school win the war 2games - 1 vs the public schools)

Anthony Collins had a big night and refused to let his team lose on opening night.
