several division one prospects (Travis HS: Aaron/ Andrew Harrison, Anthony Odunsi(Iowa State signee) Bellaire HS(Sheldon McClellan Texas signee) in the battle of two of the cities better public school teams. The city came out to support this matchup, this game was nip and tuck the whole way and went down to the wire. It was Andrew Harrison getting a late steal and fouled on the breakways and making one of his two free throws with 10sec left to give Travis HS a 53-52 lead. McClellan gets the rebound of the 2nd free throw attempt by Andrew Harrison, but Bellaire turns the ball over.  Travis inbounds the ball and scores a late basket to clinch the victory.

The Eagles from St. Thomas came out with fire in their eyes after the half and pulled even 38-38 at the end of the 3rd period.  The teams exchanged buckets in the fourth quarter and Strake managed to get a 5 point lead and control the tempo. Ralph Cooper 28th Annual Stars of The Future Tournament (MS Boys)

Stars of The Future Tournament @ Chavez HS (8501 Howard Dr Houston,TX 77017)

One of  Houston longest traditions during the Thanksgiving Holidays to the basketball community has been the Ralph Cooper "Stars of the Future Tournament". Before many kids became household names, many local players took part in this prestigious event. Many players showcased their respective skill level and gave those in attendance a quick glimpse of what would come in the future. The Ralph Cooper Tournament usually features various inner city schools, but not to change the tradition too much as of late the event has allowed several prominent private schools or outside school that have premiere up and coming talent to play in the event with the Houston inner city schools.

D1 Nation Coaches Corner : Carlos Wilson

D1 Nation Coaches Corner : Carlos Wilson

What is your alma mater? Palestine HS / Sam Houston State University
How long have you been coaching high school basketball? 8yrs
Who inspired you to get into coaching?  My brother in law, Mel Woodruff. He thought I was a great leader and knew I loved working with kids.  He started a midnight summer league back home, and was stricken with cancer. I had to run it for him and it was there i found my true purpose.
What is your favorite food? Anything Cajun
What teams this year will be your toughest games? Dallas Lincoln in McDonald's Classic in El Paso.  Plano Prestonwood/ Meridian (MS) overall tough schedule.
What is the most difficult task when coaching basketball? Managing the egos and attitudes of muliple high major players. Buying into defense first philosophy.
Who is your favorite college coach? Frank Martin/ Kansas State
What’s your definition of a good coach? A good coach is someone who has his team performing  consistently at a high level. Ultimately, we are judged on championships though.
What music do you listen to before a game? Im a jazz guy. I need something to relax because im kinda high strung. Funny thing is that when I was young , my dad would play it and I thought it was so whack!
Who is the best player you have ever coached?  Thats tough Deandre Jordan, Junior Cadougan, Olu Ashaolu, Kourtney Roberson, Latavious Williams,, The best player is Javarez "Bean" Willis who is Texas Tech. Can score 50 and lock his guy up.
What are some goals for this season? We want to win a National Title. I want CLCA to be mentioned in the same breath  as the Oak Hill Academy's and Findlay Prep's.

Fort Bend Bush Alum Chamberlain Oguchi To The D League

Congratulations to Chamberlain (Champ) Oguchi 6’5 SG from Fort Bend Bush who played collegiately for Oregon/Illinois St.  He was drafted in the 2010 NBDL 2nd round with the #14 pick by the Maine Red Claws. They are the minor league team for the Boston Celtics & Charlotte Bobcats. Champ played last year in France for the Le Harve Team.  We expect Champ to have a big year as he continues to chase his dream of playing in the NBA.  He still holds the PAC 10 record for three pointers in the NCAA tournament hitting 26 in 4 games.

Season Opener Triple Header Private Schools vs Public Schools @ ST. Thomas HS

RCS Season Kickoff @ St Thomas HS (4500 Memorial)

Tonight kicks off another basketball season in one of the hottest regions and most recruited areas in the country. Houston isnt taking a backseat to any other city around the country, there is plenty of talent and tonight triple header will feature over a dozen D1 prospects under one roof.  Although the private schools teams have all played a few games respectively, dont expect the public schools to come in a lay down in the season opener.

Rosenberg Terry came out blazing as it opened the game with a 18-2 run over the Second Baptist Eagles. Finally Second Baptist settled down and responded with a rally of their own to get back into the ballgame.  The Rangers from Terry were just too athletic and simply just wore down the Eagles. Tonight the Eagles just dug a hole they couldn't climb out of. Score round one  to the public schools.

Game 2 got off to an extremely slow start as a result the end of the 1st qtr was ST. Thomas HS 6- Sam Houston HS 4. The 2nd quarter was like a track meet compared to the 1st quarter and the Eagles from St. Thomas went into half time 21-20.  The 2nd half the Eagles duo of Chase Brogna and Christian Sanders took over and put some distance between Sam Houston. The Eagles bucked down off the defensive end  with the help of Adam Drexler's energy and hustle and thus were able to force Sam Houston into tough shoots and limit (Texas State signee) Dante Bachus to one fieldgoal in the 2nd half . Private 1- Public Schools 1)

Box Score
JHS- DeMarkus Johnson 14,  Broderick Harris 14, Joe Miles 11
WCHS-  Delvin Dickerson 15 ,Anthony Collins 15, Tyler Guidry 11

In the best game of the evening both teams came out scrapping from the tipoff.  Both ballclubs exchange baskets and after the 1st half Westbury Christian led 32-29 over the Falcons from Jones HS. After the half both teams made a few adjustments and as Anthony Collins turned up the heat Joe Miles responded to keep his team in the ball game. Both teams made a rally down the stretch and were headed to overtime 54-54 at the end of regulation. Westbury Christian sprints out to a 4 point lead in overtime, Jones responds with there own flurry due to the full court trap.  At the end of overtime 61-61 all. Westbury Christian regains composure as Jones goes ice cold from the field to take a six point lead with 1:45 left to play in double ot. Anthony Collins was simply too much down the stretch as he leads Westbury Christian by Jones HS.  (Private school win the war 2games - 1 vs the public schools)

Anthony Collins had a big night and refused to let his team lose on opening night.
