D1 Nation Coaches Corner: Coach Kevin Pullum of Houston Chavez

1.What is your alma mater?
University of Houston 1984 and Jesse H. Jones High School – class of 79
2.How long have you been coaching high school basketball?

6 years
3.Who inspired you to get into coaching?

My big brother Robert Pullum, Jr. (Poky)
4.What is you favorite food?

Sea Food
5.What teams will be the toughest games this year?

Bellaire and Madison
6.What is the most difficult task when coaching basketball?

Coaching players who've been spoiled by their parents. These individuals tend to be too sensitive to constructive criticism.
7.Who is you favorite college coach?

John Thompson, Sr.
8.Give you definition of a good coach?

A good coach is one who motivates and inspires his/her team members to be the very best that they can be on and off the court. He/she genuinely cares about each athlete as though they were their own child.  And a good coach in my opinion is one who follows the “Golden Rule.”
9.What music do you listen to before a game?

Gospel, jazz, and occasionally old school R&B from the 70’s & 80’s
10.Who is the best players you’ve ever coached?

Jamal Fenton (New Mexico)
11.What are some goals for this season?

The team goals for this season is to win the UIL state championship, have our four seniors receive athletic scholarships, and for the team to maintain a G.P.A. of 3.0 or better.
