Super 16 Extravaganza Recap

      Super 16 Team Recap

The Super 16  featured a collection of talent and the projected heavy hitters in the city, here  are a list of teams that impressed me this past weekend .  Although all the teams that were orginally schedule to play didnt participate in the event, the weekend provided a good preview for the upcoming season.

Alief Elsik-  A team of mostly seniors, this bunch is athletic and looks to push the tempo inorder to rattle opponets. Cordlandt Mills led the group and this group if they stay healthy will have good season.

Christian Life- The deepest team in the building and one of the bigger teams in the area, this team features a tremendous amount of talent of young players and savy vetrans. Be on the lookout for these guys, come midseason when these guys establish chemistry dont expect many losses. Devividas Pukas, Michael Lewis, PJ Hardwick, Joe Burton, and cast will cause problems for many opposing coaches.

Galveston Ball- Led by Terran Petteway ,Mike Evans, Dedrick Archie, this trio flat out gets it done. Ball High will be one of the favorites to compete for the spot to represent Houston in Austin if they remain healthy.

HCYA- Again will be favorite to win the homeschool national championship. HCYA once they gel they will compete at a high level. Justin Jackson is a bigtime prospect that can stroke it , and the recent addition of Danrad Knowles 6'9 (2012) to go with TJ Rhodes will keep HCYA in the hunt.
DeMarcus Johnson 6'5(2011)Jones HS

Jacoby Harrison 6'6(2011) Jones Hs

Jones- The champs of the Super 16, are one of the deepest teams in the region and will be one of the favorites to get to Austin by some. Newcomer Jacoby Harrison (6'6)2011 forward gives the Jones Falcons a much needed inside presence. Toss in the Harris twins both  (6'5)Roderick/  Broderick to go along with 4yr starters Joe Miles and Demarcus Johnson, and you can see why Jones will be a great season.

Kingwood- These guys flat out get in done on the court, considered by many one of the top defensive ball clubs in the state over the last decade this year wont be any different. The Mustangs of  Kingwood impose their will on opposing teams, Matt Porter 6'8(2012) anchors the middle establishing his presence inside the paint. Look for another run in the playoffs by Kingwood.

Seven Lakes-One of my sleeper picks in the area, these guys are talented, play hard, and teams will have to flat out beat Seven Lakes. Keep your eyes on these guys. Trey Pickney pg(5'9) 2012 leds Seven Lakes, he makes his temmates better and with him on the floor these guys wont be out of very many games.

Christian Sanders 6'3(2012) guard St. Thomas
ST. Thomas- The Eagles were without 2 starters for the event but these guys have talent and just need to come together. Jeremy King (6'9) 2012 is the man in the middle and he is surrounded by several snipers( Christian Sanders and company) on the perimeter. Look for the Eagles to fly under the radar.

Strake Jesuit- The Crusader's feat one of the areas top player in Rasheed Sulaimon 6'4 (2012) and this kid in big time, just ask the opposing players every night. Strake plays together and on any given day will give most teams problems. Come midseason Im not sure that I would want to play these guys.

Wheatley- One of Houston most historic schools rich in bball tradition, these guys keep coming at you. The frantic style of play create problems for most opponets and allows the Wildcats to never be out of a game. These guys play with great passion and energy and never back back down. Led by the tandem of Jarrion Brooks 6'0 pg(2011) and Kedron Ginn 5'10 cg(2011) in the backcourt these guys get it done. Plus the Wheatley faithfuls pack any building to support their troops.
